Nintendo Switch console and software sales in Japan, the United States, Europe and China have been boosted by the console’s Switch virtual reality headset, which will allow gamers to play games that use the system’s AR features.
The company also plans to sell a new video game system, the NX, which could come with the Switch, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The Switch’s virtual reality features will be used to bring virtual worlds to life, but it will also allow gamers a more immersive gaming experience.
Sales of Nintendo Switch and Wii U hardware have been mixed.
In its fourth quarter, Nintendo sold 2.6 million consoles and software, down by 12% from the same quarter a year ago, and the company has struggled to get the system in consumers’ hands.
Nintendo is hoping that virtual reality headsets and other VR hardware will help it get more Switch owners on board.
In addition to its VR hardware, Nintendo has also released the NX video game console, which has sold well enough to keep its price point at around $399.
The NX has a number of other gaming-related features, including a built-in camera that can detect and display faces, and a built in wireless charging system that can recharge the console in 30 minutes or less.
It’s unclear how much Nintendo will charge for its new NX system.
